Men Take Action Against Impotence Symptoms

Procrastination, unfortunately, is a very common trait in men concerning medical issues. In treating sexual dysfunctions, physicians often see individuals who have waited for years before seeking treatment. It is often difficult to know when a problem is serious enough. In individual episodes of impotence, the male partner, of course, is generally quite aware of performance failure. Isolated episodes of impotence, however, are common and do not necessarily shows all the signs of being a chronic problem. To evaluate your own situation, it is best to keep a simple written record indicating the frequency and extent of performance failure over a period of several months, which you will show to your urologist or health care professional.

Oprah Winfrey had Dr. Mehmet Oz on her show to discuss male health issues and this is what he had to say about erectile dysfunction. “A lot of men think that they will develop erectile dysfunction. In fact, half of all men between the ages of 40-70 do develop ED. But a quarter of men do not develop ED. So, why is that? The blood roads that carry blood and energy to the penis are kept open. And more importantly is the lining of the arteries that are going to the penis are kept healthy, so they can produce an important gas called nitric oxide that keeps the arteries from narrowing. They open up so the blood can engorge the penis, the veins clap down under pressure which keeps the penis hard. This is important because humans do not have a bone in their penis like most mammals. So they have to be healthy enough to create an erection that they need for reproduction.

Several simple home tests or observations can be made that provide clues to the possible existence of vascular or blood flow problems possibly related to impotence. Examination of the genital area may also yield significant evidence of possible vascular problems. When the penis is found to be consistently cold, even when exposed to warm temperatures, there is a possibility of vascular insufficiency. Abnormalities in the color of the penis are also an important indication of vascular insufficiency. In men with light-colored skin, the penis may take on a distinct blue color when blood flow is impaired. The effect is not as easy to detect with dark-skinned men, but a definite difference in appearance may be noted.

A thorough self-evaluation should include the careful analysis of your personal medical history, particularly with respect to specific health problems known to be linked with impotence. It is especially important to try to relate the onset of any known impotence-linked problem with the first appearance of significant impotence symptoms.
